Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) Program in Arizona
A flexible funding option that supports your child’s unique learning and developmental needs
If your child is struggling in a traditional school setting because of ADHD, learning differences, or emotional regulation challenges, Arizona’s ESA program might be a helpful solution.
The Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) program offers eligible families public funds to pay for customized education services—including private school tuition, educational therapies, tutoring, and more.
What Is the ESA Program?
Arizona’s ESA program, offered by the Arizona Department of Education, allows families to use a portion of state education funds to create a personalized education plan. This funding can be applied toward:
- Private school tuition
- Educational therapies (such as occupational therapy or behavioral therapy)
- Specialized services for students with learning disorders
- Tutoring or curriculum materials tailored to your child
- Support services not typically offered in public schools
For families navigating ADHD or learning differences, this flexibility can make a world of difference, offering options that fit your child instead of forcing your child to fit the system.
Who Is Eligible?
Your child may qualify if they:
- Have a diagnosis of a disability such as ADHD or a specific learning disorder
- Are currently enrolled in (or assigned to) an Arizona public or charter school
- Have a parent who is active-duty military or a veteran
- Are adopted from Arizona’s foster care system
- Attend a D- or F-rated school or district
Important: A formal diagnosis is typically required for eligibility. If you’re unsure whether your child qualifies, we can help you through the process.
